I was born on a farm in 1963, Marseilles South Africa. I studied Graphic Design at Natal Technikon and worked in industry for a number of years before taking up a lecturing position in the Faculty of Arts, where I have worked for many years.
My interest in oil painting developed late in life, and I have pursued it intensely in an effort to make up for lost time. Due to my interest in the classical approach to painting, I studied at LARA, London Atelier of Representational Art and at Studio Escalier in France.
My work is largely figurative, and I enjoy painting strangers I have photographed while travelling on subways and trains. There is something captivatingly honest about capturing a person who is unaware.
